Welcome to Job Journey

The Job Journey is a course designed to help unemployed people become work ready.

Whether you’re an unemployed job seeker, a high school student preparing for the future, a recent graduate looking for your first job, or someone returning to the workforce, Job Journey Courses equip you with the practical skills, confidence, and resilience needed to secure meaningful employment.

Through a community-driven, scalable model, the Job Journey Programme empowers local churches, community organisations, and facilitators to deliver accessible, relational, and impactful training across a range of focus areas, including work & career readiness. By equipping facilitators with resources and ongoing support, we expand the programme’s reach and sustainability, ensuring that more individuals – regardless of their background – have the opportunity to build a brighter, more secure future through employment.

Many people who are unemployed in South Africa are also unemployable

South Africa’s unemployment crisis is about more than just job shortages – many people also lack the skills, experience, or confidence to secure meaningful work. With over 30% of the population unemployed, and youth (ages 18-34) facing even higher unemployment rates, millions of discouraged job seekers feel stuck with few opportunities for economic mobility.

But being unemployed is not a final destination. Everyone is on a job journey – a path of growth, learning, and new opportunities.

Did you know the average person changes jobs 5-7 times during their working life? Whether you’re starting your career, transitioning into a new field, or re-entering the workforce, equipping yourself with the right skills and mindset can open new doors to employment and long-term career success.

What is the Job Journey?

Embark on your 11-day Journey with us across the Job Journey Island and fill your backpack every day with new items that will help you to become work ready.

These include an ID card, Hiking Boots, a Travel Journal, Binoculars, a First Aid Kit, a Compass and a Waterbottle. At each point on the Island you will learn particular skills – how to use digital technology in your Job Search, writing an Online CV using Jobstarter, creating a Cover Letter, learning Interview Skills and attending a Mock interview, and developing a Job Search Strategy.

Job Journey Stories

Clement Phaahla Thobejane came to Cape Town open to learn at our Job Journey program. He had this say about our May 2023 course, “The journey was amazing, I met an awesome team who walked the journey together. We have gathered very useful knowledge which will help us to organize our lives. Everybody knows about the rate of unemployment in South Africa, but this job readiness program gave me hope, gave me pointers and tools to approach employment effectively. I learned how to structure a professional CV, a cover letter and create my Personal Statement. I am now re-energized and ready to face the world as a new individual who seeks success for himself.”
